Odată, demult, o femeie voia să aibă și ea un copilaş. Ea s-a dus la o vrăjitoare, să-i ceară un leac. Vrăjitoarea i-a dat un bob de orz şi femeia l-a pus în pământ, într-un ghiveci de flori. Din bob a răsărit pe dată o lalea. Femeia i-a sărutat bobocul şi floarea s-a desfăcut. În mijloc era o fetiţă cât un deget de mare, aşa că a numit-o Degețica.
