In sec. XIV-XVI, expansiunea Imperiului Otoman catre centrul Europei a determinat implicarea Tarilor Romane in ceea ce s-a numit “Cruciada tarzie” (lupta statelor crestine de la nord de Dunare impotriva musulmanilor)(expeditie cu scop religios).
